DVD Recorders With Hard Drive: What They Are and Choosing the Right One

DVD recorders with hard drive are a do it all electronics choice. A regular DVD player main function is to play back videos. The standard DVD recorder will rip you favorite movies to a perfect digital format. DVD recorders with hard drive enable you to do all of the above and more.

You can edit video and rip the results onto a variety of disc types which makes it simple to match with the right player. It’s more desirable than TiVo as you can manipulate recorded material.

Top Features

1. Gives you great editing options. 2. Has an easy, user friendly way to edit as opposed to using a PC. 3. A large capacity for holding many hours of videos versus any other type of player. 4. You can archive a VHS and DVD library directly to the hard drive.

What Does All This Mean To You?

The bottom line is that DVD recorders with hard drive are truly “all in one”. Many of the these recorders not only routinely store more than 100 hours of audio/video programming but they also serve as a progressive-scan DVD player to be used with HD TV’s and also at the same time handle you DVDs, CDs and MP3 recordable discs.

You can record on both DVD RAM and DVD-R which is perfect for sharing camcorder footage with friends and family. You can also use the DVD recorder just like a video recorder in most models. Because DVD recorders with hard drive have such a fast transfer rate, it’s no problem to view the recorded part of an ongoing program from the start while still recording the program in progress.

Price

Price has come down over the last few years and these electronic marvels are available now for less than $500. Price will vary depending on which of the many options you may desire and brand name. Panasonic and CPD are two of the big brands and they have many models with different options available.

Customer Reviews

I love the way Amazon puts customer reviews at the bottom of whatever I’m considering buying. The top reviewed DVD recorders with hard drive were the Panasonic DMR- E80H Progressive-Scan DVD Player/Recorder with hard Drive.

This was a typical review I read: I had this unit for over 4 years and I never had a problem with it, at the time I bought it I knew that the tivo units were a lot cheaper but I also knew that with tivo I had to pay for a 12 dollar a month subscription and I did not want to do that. I had to get a dvd recorder with a hard drive because I don't want to keep every thing I record on dvd, I think it's nice to be able to watch it on hard drive and delete it whenever I feel like it. Programming this unit is very easy and I also love the fact that I can easily fast forward the commercials in 1, 2, or 3 minute increments.
